For decades, in the decades immediately following the Meiji Revolution, there were rumors about a village far to the north of the Japanese imperial capital that men who visited the village never returned home. Kotaro, a young scholar specializing in folklore and mythology, was so fascinated by what he heard that he set out from Toiko to discover the mystery behind the village. Once there, after wandering around for a while, Kotaro didn't notice anything unusual about the village, except for the oddity that not a single man was seen, only the girls whispered behind his back and leered at him. The day was drawing to a close and it was time to look for a place to stay for the night, but as it turned out there were no taverns or inns in the village, and when Kotaro was about to despair, contemplating giving up and returning home, the young girl, Shizuka-san, kindly allowed him to spend the night at her place. After a delicious dinner and a short talk with the landlady, Kotaro decided that something was definitely going on in this derriere, but he would start looking for answers tomorrow.
